Dr Liz Paslawsky, a consultant with SALUS Global Knowledge Exchange, has been honoured by the Energy and Environment Foundation (EEF) in India with an award for global healthcare leadership.

The EEF is an independent not-for-profit, non-governmental organisation focused on supporting billions of poor people who have little or no access to electricity and other basic energy sources. Its work encompasses knowledge, ideas, innovations, technologies and insights for the benefit of people all over the world, and aiming towards a greener future. The annual EEF Global Healthcare Awards take place alongside the World Healthcare Conference, which this year took place virtually on 15-16 April.

Nominated by the EEF – Modern Healthcare Awards Committee, Liz won the EEF – Modern Healthcare Global Women Leadership Award 2021, with EEF chair Anil Razdan lauding her for bringing back the “human side of healthcare at an international level”. He praised Liz for defining health as an ecosystem built on the deep traditions of its people and their connections to their environment; as well as for her recognition in India that the vast majority of the population relies on the advancement of alternative therapies, rather than traditional treatment-based hospital models of care.

Liz had earlier presented a paper during the conference on accelerating digital health. She dedicated her award to all those who recognise that advances in technology and digital health need to consider the wider context of health as an ecosystem rather than a traditional provider-based care model.

The EEF Global Healthcare Awards are presented to outstanding and high achievers in the international healthcare industry, including in: research; management; pharma; health insurance; and hospitals, medical colleges and medical units. The Awards also recognise the best initiatives in the scientific management of hospital medical units, industrial medical devices, and instrument manufacturing units, across the globe.

Individual award winners included:

Global Healthcare Excellence Awards 2021:

  • Preeti Sudan, former secretary of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India, and a member of the World Health Organization’s Independent Panel for Pandemic Preparedness and Response;
  • Prof Randeep Guleria, director of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences.

Global Healthcare Lifetime Achievement Awards 2021:

In addition to her consultancy role with SALUS, Liz is the founder of an international advisory team focusing on building bridges for collaboration between health and other disciplines from architecture to urban planning and sustainability. She maintains her operational knowledge as a hospital and health service chief executive by being an advisor and mentor to health executives in Australia, New Zealand, Ukraine, Italy and the UK.

Liz mentors business leaders in integrative leadership, a concept she has developed over the past 20 years through her in-depth study of mindfulness. As its basis, the concept considers the physical, emotional, mental and relational wellbeing of a leader as positively correlated with leadership and business success. Liz is also a visiting professor at the Ukrainian Catholic University, in Lvov. She contracts in Ukraine with agencies of the United Nations and sits on three international advisory boards.
